Energy Boosting Tonic For Beating The 3pm Slump

Do you need a pick-me-up in the afternoon? Don’t reach for the coffee – this energy boosting tonic will give your body what it needs.

Naomi’s Quick & Easy Energy Boosting Tonic

Struggling with that 3pm slump every day? This is my go-to drink when the afternoon rolls around. It helps to reinvigorate me when I find myself getting fatigued, and it nourishes my adrenals.

It’s also incredibly hydrating. When we have long, stressful days, we become easily dehydrated – but it’s not just about water. A lot of dehydration comes back to low electrolytes including sodium, potassium and magnesium.

Now before we jump into the recipe, I just wanted to make a couple of notes:

  1. You’ll notice that this is not a thick smoothie that instantly fills you up. Instead, it is designed to rehydrate and replace nutrients that you’ve likely burned through during the morning rush!
  2. You will want a high-speed blender such as a bullet blender or Vitamix
  3. If you have sensitive blood sugar levels, you may want to omit the apple and just have the lime as your fruit

Now onto the recipe!

Add the following ingredients to your blender cup or jug:

1 whole lime – I remove some of the skin, but leave some in. If you prefer, you can remove all of the skin

3 stalks of celery – if you hate celery, switch for cucumber

1 small apple – you can also use a kiwifruit if you prefer

1 Tablespoon of MCT oil – if you don’t have this handy, you can use coconut oil instead

Fill up with water

Blend for 30 seconds and serve!

Why is this a great afternoon smoothie option?

  • It is packed full of those hydrating electrolytes, as well as a good 1-2 cups of water depending on your blender cup size
  • The MCT oil provides easy-access energy for your brain
  • The fruit and veggies contain enzymes that support your wellbeing
  • It can take 2 minutes to throw together, making it perfect for when you’re fatigued
